MCU Meeting Minutes – April 19, 2017

Opening: 6:40 Kenton

Treasurers Report: Ingo

Club Business:

  • Annual Show: Flyers ready to go and be distributed throughout businesses.  Trolley Square reservations made.  Contracts to go out to vendors this month.
  • Solar Wind claim is open for business with new digging by back hoe. John Holfert says that it is mineral rich with lots of specimens to find!  He told the Wasatch club that it was $40 per adult to dig but had a show price of $50 at the Wasatch show this weekend.
  • No new additions to speaker list.
  • Possible field trip with Gerry in May, watch for an email.

Program:

  • Presentation from the Dallas Mineral Collecting Symposium 2015 by Dr. Bruce Cairncross, “The Kalahari Manganese Field, Development and Divine Minerals”

  • Alice and Dave Sikorski article on “Mud Diamonds” in April Rock & Gem
  • Thanksgiving Point Outreach Andrew and Dave 10:00am – 4:00pm

Field Trip Report: 

  • March FT – Gold Hill and US Mine found gold and erythrite.
  • April FT – to be announced on website.

Program:

  • Abani R Samal, Owner GeoGlobal, LLC,
  • Importance of reliable estimation of resources in the development of a mining project.
  • Mineral -> Mineral Deposit-> Mineral Resources-> Mineral Reserve
  • Goal is to increase confidence as we move from exploration to construction and mining.
  • Pre-feasibility study is a comprehensive study of the viability of a mineral project.
  • Feasibility study is a comprehensive technical and economical study of the selected development option for a mineral project to demonstrate that extraction is reasonably justified (economically mineable).
  • Mineral resource evaluation is an assessment of economic potential of a mineral deposit as to shape, size and quality (grade) matters for a deposit.
