About Us

• Membership in MCU is open to people of all ages who are interested in minerals, who are eager to collect and learn more, and who want to share their passion with others.

• Club meetings are held on the last Wednesday of every month excepting December, beginning at 6:30 PM.

• In addition to our regular meetings, the club organizes field trips, arranges visits to  look at others’ collections, and hosts a Mineral Show every September-October, free to the general public.

Newcomers and nonmembers are always welcome!

* The beautiful micrographs in the header are all specimens from Gold Hill, collected and photographed by Joe Marty.  They are (L to R): Pharmacosiderite; Parneauite; Quartz (Japan-Law twin); Connellite; Olivenite, and; Scorodite.

  1. I’d like to join. I am living in North Carolina, however have friends in Utah, lived in Salt Lake City, and was the metals geologist for the Utah Geological and Mineral Survey, 1980-84. I spent at least three months working in the Clifton (Gold Hill) district – however, never had much time to collect minerals. I’m retired (?), and would like to have an open invitation to collect minerals with club members.

  2. Effective in January 2015 MCU will be meeting on the third
(3rd) Wednesday of each month at the Sprague Library in Sugar House. The meeting starts at 6:30 and is held in the basement.
This was our meeting place for a few years before we moved to the Sutton Bldg at the U.

Our meeting will be on Wednesday, January 21st.
